What is microneedling and how does it work?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses tiny, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries. These small injuries trigger your skin’s natural repair process and stimulate new collagen and elastin.

This process has been shown to improve texture, support smoother skin, and help with common concerns such as fine lines and acne scarring over time.

What is HA serum microneedling?

In our standard microneedling treatment, hyaluronic acid (HA) serum is used during and after the procedure to support hydration and skin comfort.

HA attracts water and helps the skin feel smoother and more hydrated while your skin recovers from treatment.

What is PRP and why add it to microneedling?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It is made from a small sample of your own blood. The sample is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate platelets and growth factors.

When added to microneedling, PRP is applied to the treated skin (or used in targeted areas) to support healing and skin renewal. Since PRP comes from your own body, it is naturally compatible.

Is microneedling with PRP better than microneedling with HA serum?

Both options can improve skin texture, tone, and mild to moderate scarring.

  • Microneedling + HA serum is a strong option for patients who want collagen support plus hydration and a simpler treatment plan.
  • Microneedling + PRP may offer additional benefit for patients focused on acne scars, texture, or a more intensive rejuvenation approach.

What skin concerns can microneedling help?

  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Sun-related skin changes
  • Mild skin laxity
  • Dark marks and uneven tone

How many microneedling sessions do I need?

Most patients need a series of treatments for best results. A common plan is 3 to 6 sessions, usually spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart.

Your exact schedule depends on your skin goals, skin type, and response after each session.

What happens during a microneedling appointment?

Microneedling with HA serum

  • Skin cleansing
  • Topical numbing cream
  • Controlled microneedling treatment
  • HA serum application and post-treatment soothing care

Microneedling with PRP

  • Small blood draw
  • PRP preparation in centrifuge
  • Microneedling treatment
  • PRP applied to treated skin

What is downtime after microneedling?

Most people have mild redness for 1 to 3 days, similar to a light sunburn. You can usually return to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours.

Avoid intense exercise, heavy sun exposure, pools, and irritating skincare right after treatment. Follow your aftercare plan closely for the best outcome.

What are the common side effects of microneedling?

The most common temporary effects are:

  • Redness
  • Mild swelling
  • Skin sensitivity or tightness
  • Dryness or light flaking
  • Mild discomfort during treatment

These are the common effects most patients notice and they usually improve within a few days.

How long do microneedling results last?

Results build gradually as your skin produces new collagen. Many patients notice early changes within a few weeks, with fuller results over the next few months.

Maintenance sessions every 6 to 12 months can help extend results as skin continues to age naturally.
